Essentially, handpoke is a tattooing technique, not a style per se. Artists specializing in this method do not use electric machines to create their work. Instead, they use a stick with a single needle or a few (depending on the need). This is how tattoos were done in the days without electricity, and it can be said that this is a return to the roots of tattoo art. The whole process is slower and more painful, so currently, handpoke is not used for large and complex projects. It works well for minimalist tattoos.
